Western art is the art of Europe, and those parts of the world that have come to follow predominantly European cultural traditions such as North America.

When ‘classical music’ is used as a synonym for ‘Western art music’, the term encompasses a range of musical styles and approaches, ranging from compositional techniques (such as fugue) to entertaining operettas.
