Louisiana State Song

"Give Me Louisiana" is one of the state songs of Louisiana. It was written by Doralice Fontane, and the lyrics were composed by John Croom.

"You Are My Sunshine" is a popular song first recorded about 1940. It has been declared one of the official state songs of Louisiana in 1977 as a result of its association with former state governor and country music star Jimmie Davis.

In 1999, "You Are My Sunshine" was honored with a Grammy Hall of Fame Award and the Recording Industry Association of America named it one of the Songs of the Century. "You Are My Sunshine" was ranked #73 on CMT's 100 Greatest Songs in Country Music in 2003.

You are my Sunshine - Emmylou Harris & Glen Campbell

Lyrics

You are my sunshine
My only sunshine
You make me happy
When skies are grey
You'll never know dear
How much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away.

The other night, dear
As I lay sleeping
I dreamed I held you in my arms.
When I awoke, dear
I was mistaken
So I hung my head and cried;

You are my sunshine
My only sunshine
You make me happy
When skies are grey
You'll never know dear
How much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away.

You told me once, dear
You really loved me
And no one else could come between
But now you've left me
And loved another
And you have shattered all my dreams;

You are my sunshine
My only sunshine
You make me happy
When skies are grey
You'll never know dear
How much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away.

Louisiana my Louisiana
the place where I was borne.
White fields of cotton
-- green fields clover,
the best fishing
and long tall corn;

Crawfish gumbo and jambalaya
the biggest shrimp and sugar cane,
the finest oysters
and sweet strawberries
from Toledo Bend to New Orleans.
