Unison In music, a unison is an interval, the ratio of 1:1 or 0 half steps and zero cents. Two tones in unison are considered to be the same pitch, but are still perceivable as coming from separate sources.
Upbeat 1. An unaccented beat or beats that occur before the first beat of a following measure.
2. An anticipatory note or succession of notes occurring before the first barline of a piece, sometimes referred to as an ‘upbeat figure’, section or phrase.
3. The upward stroke made by a conductor to indicate the beat that leads into a new measure.
Uvular fluttertonguing Uvular fluttertonguing is a wind instrument technique where the instrumentalist performs and uvular trill to produce an effect like that of fluttertonguing. Uvular fluttertonguing is used when an alveolar trill cannot be produced.
