 | Gathering of the Vibes (GOTV) is an annual four-day music, camping and arts festival that showcases a very diverse variety of music. Over the course of the event, styles may include; Funk, Bluegrass, Rock, Jam Band, Jazz, Reggae, R&B & Folk music. | Since 1996, GOTV has brought many bands to the New England area during the summer season. There are two main stages that alternate bands so that festival goers experience music all day and into the night. A short stroll down the beach is the "Solar Beach Stage" which showcases some of the Northeast's finest talent. Besides the music, festival goers can choose from a wide assortment of food and beverage vendors including many vegetarian selections. There is also an incredible variety of both hand-made crafts and imported goods along the "Craft Vendor Row" know as Shakedown Street which is highlighted by an many types of vender, an Art Gallery along with Vibes merchandise. GOTV 2008 will take place from July 31 to August 3, returning to the site of the 1999, 2000 and 2007 festivals: the beautiful 360 acre Seaside Park in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Thursday (July 31) night will be a tribute to the life and times of Jerry Garcia (see photo - taken by David Gans on December 31, 1976) led by Dark Star Orchestra, Donna Jean & The Tricksters. Jerry John (August 1, 1942 – August 9, 1995) was an American musician, songwriter, artist, and lead guitarist and vocalist of the psychedelic rock band the Grateful Dead. Though he vehemently disavowed the role, Garcia was viewed by many as the leader or "spokesman" of the group. Performing with the Grateful Dead for its entire three-decade career (which spanned from 1965 to 1995), Garcia participated in a variety of side projects, including the Jerry Garcia Band, Old and in the Way, the Garcia/Grisman acoustic duo, and Legion of Mary. Garcia co-founded the New Riders of the Purple Sage with John Dawson and David Nelson. He also released several solo albums, and contributed to a number of albums by other artists over the years as a session musician. He was well known by many for his distinctive guitar playing and was ranked 13th in Rolling Stone's "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" cover story.
