Broadway Musical: A Tale of Two Cities


 Charles Dickens is acclaimed as one of history's greatest novelistsA Tale of Two Cities is a musical with book, music and lyrics by Jill Santoriello based on the novel of the same name by Charles Dickens (see image). The musical was first performed at the Asolo Repertory Theatre in Sarasota, Florida, in October and November 2007. James Stacy Barbour played Sidney Carton, and Jessica Rush played Lucie Manette.
The musical is scheduled to begin previews on Broadway on August 19, 2008, with an official opening on September 18, at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. Warren Carlyle will be the director-choreographer. Executive producers are Barbra Russell and Ron Sharpe, and the creative team includes Tony Walton (scenery) and David Zinn (costumes).

The sweeping Dickens-inspired musical about a family separated by the French Revolution, seeks to bring back the Les Miz-style epic. Principal cast includes James Barbour, repeating his role as Sydney Carton, Brandi Burkhardt as Lucie Manette, Aaron Lazar as Charles Darnay, Gregg Edelman as Dr. Alexandre Manette, Natalie Toro as Madame Therese Defarge, and Nick Wyman as John Barsad.
